Pan's Labyrinth (2006)

At the head of fantasy movies, El laberinto del Fauno (2006) (Pan's Labyrinth), film-guided and directed by Guillermo del Toro is one of my recommendations. Nominated for best foreign film by The Academy Awards, Oscars. Winner of 3 Academy Awards, 3 BAFTA awards and 7 Goya Awards.

For those who like me do not like watching fantasy movies, they have found an elegant way how to lead you to a magical fantasy world from the real world. The connection with reality; the end of the Spanish Civil War in 1944. The Magic; the stepdaughter of the Captain of Franco’s army Ofelia finds out that she is a princess from subterranean world that has become human.

The character of Ofelia, the little princess in all her innocence, her voice sweet and the soundtrack gives the film a touch of melancholy. After Ofelia other characters are: the captain (father of Ofelia) absolutely cruel and calculated that belongs to the Franco’s Army and is responsible for eliminating the remnants of the Resistance (guerrilla), Mercedes who works at home of the captain but who is an infiltrated of the guerrillas, Carmen, mother of Ofelia who is very ill, the doctor who cares for Ofelia's mother but that is also cooperating with the guerrillas. Other characters that are part of the magic world are the faun with its mysterious character that makes Ofelia founds out about her underground world and the fairies who guide Ofelia in their prowess.

This is an excellent movie.

Slum dog Millionaire (2008)

2

Movie directed by Danny Bolyle.
Winner of 8 oscars: best picture, best director, best adapted screenplay, best cinematography, best original score, best original song , best film editing and .best sound mixing.

Without any doubt, slum dog millionaire is a movie to watch. The movie is good however isn’t the greatest that the 8 oscars that won, pretend to show.
I completely agree with the good performance of Jamal and the brother, the really good cinematography and music, however the plot is a little fantastic since pretends that Jamal the extremely poor boy from the slums of Mumbai, as a result all his life adventures answers correctly to the elaborated questions about classical Indian poetry and American political history that the host of TV show “who wants to Be a Millionaire is asking.
Moreover the look into the poverty to my point of view is little gruesome. In fact the some of the critics in India mention that is pornography of the poverty.
